Kinkaku-ji Temple

Kinkaku-ji Temple was built by Yoshimitsu Ashikaga.

He was the third shogun of the Muromachi Shogunate.

The construction began in 1397 and was completed in 1399.

( In 1397, Europe was in the midst of the “Hundred Years War” )

Kinkaku-ji Temple was built as the residence of Yoshimitsu Ashikaga.

Yoshimitsu Ashikaga traded with the Ming dynasty and made a profit.

He won the power struggle and made the heyday of the Muromachi Shogunate.

Therefore, he was able to build a golden mansion with a vast garden.

(There is no pool, but there is a large pond.)

There were other buildings in the old Kinkaku-ji Temple, but after Yoshimitsu Ashikaga died, his son Yoshimochi destroyed everything except the existing one.

It was because he had a grudge against his father.

Time passed….

In 1950, there was an arson at Kinkaku-ji Temple.

A monk apprentice, Shoken Hayashi, set fire.

The reason was “revenge on society.” (apres-guerre crime)

The current Kinkaku-ji Temple was rebuilt in 1955.

Then, in 1994, it was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Kinkaku-ji Temple is a popular name.

Originally, it is called Rokuon-ji Temple.
